League recap: Sachse climbs in state rankings with win

Sachse moved up to 162 from 192 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 11. The Mustangs were able to make move up by defeating South Garland 38-21.

Garland extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Naaman Forest, 33-14. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.

Rowlett's dynamic duo of Carson Hyles and Tyler Hogan proved tough for North Garland to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hyles threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns and Hogan had 109 yards receiving. Jonathan Williams helped Rowlett's passing attack out by catching six balls for 91 yards.

Kent Myers provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Sachse defeated the Colonels. He completed 13 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 88 yards. Myers' favorite target this week was Tyrique Edwards, who caught five passes for 64 yards.

Devine Ozigbo was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 109 yards as Mark Behrens' team bested the Raiders.

On the ground, Lakeview Centennial's DEMARCUS HALL has rushed for 1008 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Branson Ball. The Naaman Forest star has 42 catches for 702 yards.

Rowlett's Hyles is within 58 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against the Patriots. Accruing a total of 14 touchdowns this year, Hyles has thrown for 1942 yards with six interceptions.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Rangers take on the Mustangs. As it stands, Naaman Forest is in sixth, while Sachse is in first.

Kiff Hardin's team took down North Garland 38-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Hyles in the win.
