Baseball Game Preview: Sotomayor Wolves vs. Torres Toros

For the second straight game, Sotomayor will face off against Torres. The Wolves will venture away from home to face off against the Toros at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sotomayor is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

Sotomayor will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Torres, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Wolves came out on top against the Toros by a score of 7-2 on Monday.

Sebastian Mejia was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Sotomayor's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Trevor Montellano, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Sotomayor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .552 or higher in four consecutive games.

Sotomayor pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Torres, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sotomayor has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Torres struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.4 strikeouts.
