Softball Game Preview: Santa Rosa Lions vs. Clayton Yellowjackets

Santa Rosa has gone 9-1 against Clayton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Yellowjackets at 3:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Santa Rosa saw some tournament action on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 20-7 margin over Highland. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.

Leah Moncayo was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (five). Another player making a difference was Amaya Gonzales, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Moncayo wasn't the only one making solid contact: Santa Rosa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Clayton hadn't beaten Pecos on the road since March 27, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 23-14 win. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 28, 2024, but that streak is no more.

The victory got Clayton back to even at 3-3. As for Santa Rosa, the win also got them back to even at 3-3.

Santa Rosa took their victory against Clayton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-3 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
