Baseball Recap: Firebaugh Takes a Loss

Firebaugh extended their losing streak to 14 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-19 in the process. They came up short against the Coalinga Horned Toads, falling 15-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Horned Toads this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 on April 4th.

As for Coalinga, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-7. The result was nothing new for the Horned Toads, who have now won seven contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Coalinga's part, Luke Wojewoda was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wojewoda has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Coalinga let Landon Kiker and David Moreno run wild. Kiker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Moreno went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Kiker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan McDaniel, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Firebaugh will face off against Tranquillity at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.6 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Coalinga, they will head out on the road to face off against Avenal at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Horned Toads are facing the Buccaneers at the right time seeing as the Buccaneers are stuck on a 16-game losing streak.
