Football Recap: Alton Takes a Loss

Alton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a 57-13 loss at the hands of the Belleville West Maroons. The Redbirds lost against the Maroons in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 44-22 score last time.

Although Alton took the loss, they still got scores from Grant Ely and Markeese Barnett.

Alton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Belleville West, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-4.

Alton and Belleville West could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Redbirds (ranked 286th) will meet Edwardsville (ranked 38th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Belleville West will face off against Belleville East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (165 vs. 49).
