Basketball Recap: Jacob Reisinger's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pomeroy over Sunnyside Christian

If Pomeroy was riding high fresh off their 51-22 takedown of Waitsburg last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pomeroy Pirates took a 46-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sunnyside Christian Knights. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Pomeroy lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jacob Reisinger, who went 6 for 12 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Slusser, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Pomeroy's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Sunnyside Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Looking ahead, Pomeroy will be taking part in a tournament against Riverside Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sunnyside Christian, they will challenge Garfield-Palouse at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Garfield-Palouse knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Sunnyside Christian likes a good challenge.
