Baseball Game Preview: Harlan County Black Bears vs. Harlan Green Dragons

The Harlan County Black Bears are taking a road trip to take on the Harlan Green Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Harlan County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with five straight defeats, while Harlan will come in with three straight wins.

Harlan County fell victim to South Laurel and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals.

Meanwhile, while Harlan put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Middlesboro. The Green Dragons were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Yellowjackets. Considering the Green Dragons have won five contests by more than 11 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Baylor Varner was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Harlan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Brody Owens was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Harlan's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Harlan County, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11-1.

Harlan County suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Harlan when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Black Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
