Basketball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 68-20 defeat at the hands of the Monument Valley Cougars. The Buckaroo were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-12.

Monticello's loss came despite strong showings from Maron Freestone and Makenna Peterson. Freestone posted ten points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Peterson had no points. Freestone has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. LE Olson also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Monument Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dakotah Cly, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Malaya Blackmountain, who put up 15 points.

Monticello has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Monument Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9.

Monticello didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 35-27 victory against Pinnacle on the 13th. Monument Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
