Softball Recap: Southside Wins Going Away Against Greene Central

Southside won the last time they faced Greene Central and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Seahawks blew past the Rams 11-4. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Carolina Crisp made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lily McLean and Layla Hombirg did most of the damage at the plate: McLean scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4, while Hombirg went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. McLean has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 14 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emily Mondragon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The win got Southside back to even at 7-7-1. As for Greene Central, their loss was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18.

Looking ahead, Southside will square off against Lejeune at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Seahawks are facing the Devil Pups at the right time seeing as the Devil Pups are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Greene Central, they will face off against West Craven at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
