Baseball Recap: Baker County Takes a Loss

Baker County easily dispatched Old Plank Christian Academy last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Wildcats fell just short of the Keystone Heights Indians by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Indians earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Nicholas Chowaniec put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Chowaniec wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Turner, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI.

Baker County's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Keystone Heights, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baker County will face off against Union County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fightin' Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Keystone Heights, they will take on Interlachen at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup will give the Indians their first taste of in-conference action this season.
