Basketball Recap: West Charlotte Takes a Loss

West Charlotte played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the North Mecklenburg Vikings and fell 83-40. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Vikings are ranked tenth).

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Coleman, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Chase Bryson, who scored nine points and five boards.

Even though they lost, West Charlotte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

West Charlotte's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for North Mecklenburg, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season.

West Charlotte didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-42 victory against Seventy-First on the 18th. As for North Mecklenburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hough at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. North Mecklenburg knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Hough likes a good challenge.
