Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Eli Velasquez and Jacob Villalobos Lead El Dorado to Victory

El Dorado entered their tilt with Bowie on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Bowie Bears by a score of 51-40. This was payback for the Aztecs, who suffered a 56-55 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leading El Dorado to victory were Jacob Villalobos and Eli Velasquez. Villalobos went 6 for 11 on his way to 13 points, while Velasquez went 5 of 7 en route to 15 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Velasquez a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Montoya, who posted six points and three steals.

El Dorado was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bowie only posted four assists.

Despite the loss, Bowie still got an impressive performance from Johan Camacho, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. The matchup was Camacho's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Alan Mota was another key player, putting up two points and seven steals.

El Dorado has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 32.1% in those games and 28.3% outside of them. As for Bowie, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

El Dorado wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-49 win against Franklin on the 27th. As for Bowie, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-41 victory against Santa Teresa on the 27th.
