Baseball Recap: Burrell Takes a Loss

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Burrell and Shady Side Academy had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Bucs fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 7-5 on Monday. The Bucs haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Colton Whitlock was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rayden Shirey made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Wass, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Burrell's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Shady Side Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burrell will host Leechburg at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Bucs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Shady Side Academy, they will challenge Bishop Canevin at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
