Brush and Madison are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Arcs will challenge the Blue Streaks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Brush is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Kirtland on Wednesday. They fell 5-2 to the Hornets.
Brush saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Geofferson Betts, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Madison came tearing into Wednesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Warriors. Considering the Blue Streaks have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Landon Tomco looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, Madison let Ben Amos and Eddy Gvora run wild. Amos got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI, while Gvora went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Gvora has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was AlexAnder DAvis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Madison pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Brush, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brush has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Madison struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Brush couldn't quite get it done against Madison in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Arcs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
