Palisade is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Thursday. They will head out to challenge the Rifle Bears at 7:00 p.m. Palisade is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 32.3 points per game this season.
Palisade is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Summit: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Bulldogs blew the Tigers out of the water with a 55-0 final score. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Tigers are ranked 144th) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palisade's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tristan Brinton, who rushed for 42 yards and two scores. Another signal caller making a difference was Branson Springer, who threw for 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Palisade was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 300 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Palisade didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Aidan Shiao, Jaquiox Bavor, and Kade Croker picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Rifle was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 28-27 heartbreaker at the hands of University. The Bears were up 14-0 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Palisade will have to contain Alex Gonzalez as he made an impact in Rifle's last game. He rushed for 50 yards and one TD, and also threw for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Palisade has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.8 points on average over those games. As for Rifle, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Everything came up roses for Palisade against Rifle when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 48-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
