Softball Game Preview: Cooper Jaguars vs. Dixie Heights Colonels

The Cooper Jaguars will venture away from home to face off against the Dixie Heights Colonels at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last seven times Cooper and Grant County have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Jaguars fell just short of the Braves by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Jaguars in their meetings with the Braves: they've now lost four in a row.

Lily Spraker was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cooper saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kinley (KJ) Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Dixie Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They came up short against Highlands, falling 14-0. Considering the last time the Colonels couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Cooper's defeat dropped their record down to 9-23. As for Dixie Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.

Cooper took their win against Dixie Heights when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
