Baseball Recap: St. Mary's Has No Trouble Against Gilbert

St. Mary made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Gilbert, but still couldn't quite topple them. The St. Mary's Knights were the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over the Gilbert Tigers on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Knights have posted since April 8, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Javier Romero, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Rios, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

St. Mary's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert only managed two hits.

The win made it two in a row for St. Mary's and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Gilbert, they dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will venture away from home to face off against Boulder Creek at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Gilbert, they will be taking part in a tournament against Crismon at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
