Lowell took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Morgan Township, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Devils narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Cherokees 5-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Red Devils, who have now won five matchups in a row.

Ryan Wellwerts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zak Scharnke, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Domke, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Lowell lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Lowell's record is now 13-9. As for Morgan Township, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-9.

Coming up, Lowell will square off against La Porte at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Morgan Township, they will challenge Boone Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
