Basketball Recap: Oxford Takes a Loss

Oxford was the 61-52 winner over Southaven when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Oxford Chargers took a 66-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southaven Chargers. Oxford's loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Southaven got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayven Welch out in front who went 5 of 8 en route to 16 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Welch is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Cameron Hammond was another key player, going 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Oxford's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Southaven, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-9.

Oxford will venture away from home to square off against Shannon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Southaven, they will host Hernando at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southaven is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season.
