Softball Game Preview: Johnsburg Skyhawks vs. Sandwich Indians

The Johnsburg Skyhawks will take on the Sandwich Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Johnsburg's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three contests, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Johnsburg took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Richmond-Burton, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Skyhawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Rockets a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Skyhawks have beaten the Rockets on their field since May 24, 2021.

The result came thanks to Joree Tibbs's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Johnsburg saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Riener, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Kimmy Whitlock also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Sandwich unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 5-2 to Morris.

Jillian Freemon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Sandwich's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Johnsburg, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Johnsburg beat Sandwich 8-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Skyhawks repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
