Softball Recap: Scituate Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Scituate came out on top against Burrillville on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Spartans walked away with an 8-3 win over the Broncos. Eight seems to be a good number for the Spartans as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Isabella Defusco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Scituate got a massive performance out of Lily Maggiacomo, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Maggiacomo a new career-high. Isabella Rotondo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Scituate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Scituate's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-7. As for Burrillville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Scituate will venture away from home to take on North Providence at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Burrillville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Portsmouth at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Broncos surely won't give up without a fight.
