Basketball Game Preview: Avery Bulldogs vs. Sulphur Bluff Bears

The Avery Bulldogs will square off against the Sulphur Bluff Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Avery will be strutting in after a win while Sulphur Bluff will be coming in after a loss.

Sulphur Bluff will be up against a hot Avery squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Avery blew past Avinger 63-27 on Tuesday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-9.

Meanwhile, Sulphur Bluff unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. The contest between them and Saltillo didn't end well, with Sulphur Bluff falling 62-46.

Avery pushed their record up to 16-12 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Sulphur Bluff, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-14.

Avery and Sulphur Bluff were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but Avery came up empty-handed after a 43-42 loss. Can Avery avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
