Bowdon has gone a perfect 4-0 against Greenville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Red Devils will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bowdon has three straight victories, Greenville has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Bowdon's offense will try to repeat the strong performance it gave last Friday, when they got past Mt. Zion's usually-dominant defense. The Red Devils simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Eagles 44-7. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Bowdon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joshua Hopkins led the charge by rushing for 131 yards and one score on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 61 yards and a pair of TDs. Hopkins' longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. Connor Daniel was another key player, rushing for 142 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bowdon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 299 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in December of 2024.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bowdon's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Greenville fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Trion on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 26-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Bowdon will have to keep a close watch on Jamere Smith and Marquel Deering, a pair of players who had a big impact on Greenville's prior game. Smith picked up 173 receiving yards, while Deering rushed for 116 yards on only 14 carries. Deering's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 116 rushing yards.
Greenville's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Bowdon, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Bowdon has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 177.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Greenville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 328.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Bowdon against Greenville in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 58-7 victory. In that contest, the Red Devils amassed a halftime lead of 42-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
