Basketball Game Preview: Deer Trail Eagles vs. Elbert Bulldogs

The Deer Trail Eagles will challenge the Elbert Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

Last Thursday, Deer Trail was beaten by Burlington 54-21. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Cougars are ranked 40th).

Meanwhile, Elbert made easy work of Denver Waldorf on Friday and carried off a 49-24 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-6.

Elbert's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.5 points over those games. As for Deer Trail, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Deer Trail didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Elbert in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 30-26 victory. Will Deer Trail repeat their success, or does Elbert have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
