Baseball Game Preview: Wawasee Warriors vs. Mishawaka Cavemen

Wawasee is 2-8 against Mishawaka since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Warriors will challenge the Cavemen at 5:30 p.m.

Wawasee is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They fell 4-0 to Warsaw.

Wawasee saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Mack, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mishawaka, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Plymouth 7-6.

Braedyn Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Gage Spychalski was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Shawn Nowacki was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Mishawaka has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Wawasee, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.

Wawasee might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Mishawaka in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
