League recap: Montgomery stuns Cardinal Newman in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Montgomery, who defeated 200th ranked Cardinal Newman, 31-25. Logan Francavilla ran for 158 yards during the win.

Adding to the longest winning streak in North Bay this week, Casa Grande beat Santa Rosa 35-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Francavilla was a passing and rushing force as the Vikings beat the Cardinals. Francavilla's favorite target this week was Anthony Batista, who caught 3 passes for 41 yards.

JaJuan Lawson put up the best numbers in passing as Casa Grande beat the Panthers. He finished with 9 completions for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lawson's favorite target this week was Zakk Molina, who caught 2 passes for 62 yards.

6-foot-1 quarterback Lawson of Trent Herzog's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 776. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Etienne Ezeff. The Montgomery star has 20 catches for 271 yards.

At the moment, the Gauchos are in first, while Maria Carrillo is in fourth.

Montgomery scaled the state rankings by moving to 247 from 338 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Dean Haskins' team was able to move up by beating Cardinal Newman 31-25.
