Basketball Game Preview: Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils vs. Old Lyme Wildcats

Coginchaug Regional is 2-8 against Old Lyme since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils will venture away from home to face off against the Old Lyme Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Coginchaug Regional knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Old Lyme likes a good challenge.

Coginchaug Regional is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against East Granby by a score of 65-56.

Meanwhile, Old Lyme came tearing into Tuesday's game with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.9 points), and they left with even more momentum. They beat the Owls by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 63-47. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Owls are ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Old Lyme pushed their record up to 21-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Coginchaug Regional, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Coginchaug Regional came up short against Old Lyme in their previous matchup back in January, falling 67-59. Can Coginchaug Regional avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
