Softball Recap: Northgate Wins Going Away Against Rochester

Northgate won against Carlynton last Wednesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Northgate put the hurt on the Rochester Rams with a sharp 15-3 victory. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Flames this season.

Johna Abramowicz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Abramowicz was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Auth, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game. Bayleigh Hooper was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Northgate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Northgate and bumps their season record up to 3-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11.5 hits in those games compared to only 4.67 in the others. As for Rochester, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Northgate will face off against Bishop Canevin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Rochester, they will challenge Hopewell at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
