Basketball Game Preview: Houston Hilltoppers vs. Kosciusko Whippets

Houston is on a eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Kosciusko is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Houston Hilltoppers will welcome the Kosciusko Whippets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Houston's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.

Last Tuesday, Houston didn't have too much trouble with Caledonia as they won 68-50.

Houston found their leader in sophomore Katie Jones, who posted 26 points. The match was Jones' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shariya Myles, who had 13 points.

Meanwhile, Kosciusko unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 50-40 to Louisville.

Despite the loss, Kosciusko saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaleysha Miller went 6 of 12 on her way to 15 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zanyla Peteet, who put up 12 points and three steals.

Houston is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.1 points per game. As for Kosciusko, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-3.

Houston was able to grind out a solid victory over Kosciusko when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 60-48. Does Houston have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kosciusko turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
