Basketball Recap: New York School for the Deaf Comes Up Short

New York School for the Deaf lost against Rhode Island School for the Deaf back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The New York School for the Deaf Golden Tornadoes lost 52-31 to Rhode Island School for the Deaf. While losing is never fun, the Golden Tornadoes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 951st in New York, while Rhode Island School for the Deaf are ranked 44th in Rhode Island).

Howard Valentin was his usual excellent self, shooting 6-for-11 from deep and almost dropping a double-double with 30 points and nine steals for Rhode Island School for the Deaf. The game was Valentin's sixth in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Correy Oliveira, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

New York School for the Deaf's loss dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Rhode Island School for the Deaf, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.

New York School for the Deaf does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rhode Island School for the Deaf, they have already played their next match, a 33-30 win against Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf on the 23rd.
