Softball Recap: Duxbury Gets the Win

Duxbury's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Scituate Sailors a 13-0 shutout. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Francesca ?Franky? Iovanna made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Iovanna was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleigh Ryan, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Carroll, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Duxbury kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Duxbury's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Scituate, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Duxbury will challenge Plymouth South at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Scituate, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hanover at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
