West and Maypearl squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but West had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 7-5. The Trojans' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Laynie Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marlee Chase made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

West's defeat dropped their record down to 13-15-1. As for Maypearl, their win bumped their record up to 13-14-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Panthers beat West by a score of 7-5 later that day.
