Softball Game Preview: Terre Haute North Vigo Patriots vs. Avon Orioles

Terre Haute North Vigo is 0-10 against Avon since May of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Patriots will face off against the Orioles at 6:00 p.m. Avon took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Terre Haute North Vigo, who comes in off a win.

Terre Haute North Vigo proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 23) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Terre Haute South Vigo. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since May 10, 2024.

Cathedral hit Avon with a five-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Orioles took a 15-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fighting Irish.

Payton Kellermeier made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Yeary, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Terre Haute North Vigo pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Avon, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Terre Haute North Vigo might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Avon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
