League recap: Mahoney breaks off league-leading run for Riverton

Riverton's Brayden Mahoney rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Region 4 this season in his game against Lone Peak last week. Mahoney scampered for 86 yards on the play and finished with 128 on the day as his team fell to the Knights.

Lone Peak and Riverton played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Lone Peak eventually emerging with a 17-13 victory. Baron Gajkowski threw for 226 yards and ran for 127 yards in the win.

Pleasant Grove's dynamic duo of MICHAEL ANDERSON and DALLIN HATCH proved tough for American Fork to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. ANDERSON threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns and HATCH had 138 yards receiving. TYLER SCHADE helped Pleasant Grove's passing attack out by catching four balls for 77 yards.

Anthony Decker made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Cavemen lost to the Vikings. The 5-foot-10 senior pulled down one interception and recorded one fumble.

Pleasant Grove's ANDERSON and SKYLER MUNSON have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. ANDERSON has thrown for 1845 yards this season, while MUNSON, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 31 catches for 766 yards. Lehi's Ryan Absher leads the league in rushing yards with 735.

The marquee game in 5A Region 4 this week will be the clash between Les Hamilton's team and Bingham. The Vikings enters the contest ranked 19th in the state, while the Miners ranks sixth.

Pleasant Grove's ANDERSON is within 155 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Bingham.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Vikings take on David Peck's team. Pleasant Grove's offense has scored 262 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Miners have allowed only 102 on the year.
