Soccer Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Athens/PORTA's Winning Streak

After flying high against Riverton/Tri-City last Thursday, Athens/PORTA came back down to earth. The Warriors lost 4-1 to the Springfield Senators on Saturday. Athens/PORTA were red-hot offensively heading into the game (they scored no less than four goals in the five contests prior), but Springfield's defense proved too tough.

Athens/PORTA's goal came courtesy of Ava Bee, who's now up to 22 this season.

With the loss, Athens/PORTA broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-2. As for Springfield, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens/PORTA will head out to challenge Williamsville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Springfield, they will venture away from home to face off against Decatur Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield will be up against Decatur Eisenhower's rather soft defense (which has allowed 8.2 goals per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
