Recap: Mauston Golden Eagles vs. Sparta Spartans
If the Mauston Golden Eagles were feeling good off their 66-26 takedown of the Necedah Cardinals on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mauston fell 76-68 to Sparta on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (66), Mauston still had to take the loss.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sparta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Thomas Laufenberg, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gavin Rhead, who scored 19 points.
Mauston now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Sparta, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Mauston will head out on the road to face off against Aquinas at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sparta, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln at 7:15 p.m. Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
