Discovery is 0-8 against Sun Valley Magnet since April of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Warriors will host the Pioneers at 2:00 p.m. Discovery has given up an average of 15.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Discovery made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lakeview Charter, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Warriors fell just short of the Lions by a score of 11-9 on Tuesday. The Warriors just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Meanwhile, Sun Valley Magnet waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Titans. Considering the Pioneers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Manuel Marquez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Sun Valley Magnet's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 7-2 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Marquez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 12 games he's played.
In other pitching news, Diego Loredo looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Sun Valley Magnet is 8-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Manuel Baltazar, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Luis Marquez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Discovery's loss dropped their record down to 1-10-1. As for Sun Valley Magnet, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
