Basketball Recap: David Ellis Jr.'s Big Game Can't Quite Lead First Coast Christian over Christ's Church Academy

If First Coast Christian was feeling good fresh off their 72-22 takedown of Covenant School of Jacksonville last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The First Coast Christian Knights took a 55-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Christ's Church Academy Eagles on Thursday. The Knights have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

First Coast Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Ellis Jr., who went 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidyn Farrell, who posted eight points and four steals.

Even though they lost, First Coast Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Christ's Church Academy was led to victory by Michael Jativa and Jackson Olson. Jativa went 7 of 13 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points, while OlsOn dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. Another player making a difference was Conner Whitaker, who had six points and eight rebounds.

First Coast Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Christ's Church Academy, they pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

First Coast Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Johns Country Day at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. First Coast Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season. As for Christ's Church Academy, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Trinity Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Christ's Church Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches.
