Baseball Game Preview: Alcoa Tornadoes vs. McMinn Central Chargers

For the second straight game, Alcoa will face off against McMinn Central. The Tornadoes will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alcoa has 16 straight wins, McMinn Central has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Alcoa and McMinn Central, and Alcoa kept the tradition alive. The Tornadoes came out on top against the Chargers by a score of 6-3 on Thursday.

Myles Cox was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Eli Graf was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Aden Orrick, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Alcoa pushed their record up to 29-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for McMinn Central, their loss dropped their record down to 23-14.
