Baseball Recap: Dunellen Extends Winning Streak to Five

While Dunellen didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They never let the Perth Amboy Vo-Tech Patriots get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Monday. Considering the Destroyers have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Cole Mayer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Mayer was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Shealy, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Michael Dow was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Dunellen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory (which was Dunellen's fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Perth Amboy Vo-Tech, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Dunellen will face off against Timothy Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Perth Amboy Vo-Tech, they will square off against Rahway at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
