Football Recap: West Platte Comes Up Short

After flying high against Plattsburg last Friday, West Platte came back down to earth. The Bluejays came up short against the Lawson Cardinals on Friday, falling 51-27. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bluejays of the 34-15 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Grayson Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lawson, rushing for 220 yards and five scores while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Smith's longest rush was for an incredible 77 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Smith, who gained 156 total yards and a touchdown.

West Platte's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Lawson, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

Looking ahead, West Platte will square off against East Buchanan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. As for Lawson, they will challenge Plattsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 57.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
