Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Mataio Mamea-Haroldson and Ashtyn Collier Lead Liberty to Victory

Liberty won the last time they faced Hemet and things went their way on Monday too. Liberty came out on top against Hemet by a score of 3-1. The win was nothing new for the Bison as they're now sitting on three straight.

Liberty had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-8, 25-21, 25-20.

Liberty was led to victory by Ashtyn Collier and Mataio Mamea-Haroldson. Collier had eight aces and two blocks, while Mamea-Haroldson had ten blocks and six kills. Mamea-Haroldson has been hot, having posted two or more blocks the last seven times he's played.

They weren't the only good server: Liberty was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last eight matchups.

Despite the defeat, Hemet saw an underclassman step up: freshman Michael Heckenliable had five digs, three aces, and one block. Those three aces gave Heckenliable a new career-high.

Liberty's record now sits at 12-8. As for Hemet, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Liberty will challenge Perris at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Perris will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Liberty surely won't give up without a fight. After both having extra time off, Hemet and Valley View will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:15 p.m. on April 1.
