Chloe Armiger made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, St. John's got a massive performance out of Logan Brooks, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Brooks has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Yasmin Burrell, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
St. John's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Georgetown Day only posted an OBP of .143.
Meanwhile, National Cathedral faced Georgetown Visitation Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. National Cathedral put the hurt on Georgetown Visitation Prep with a sharp 12-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for National Cathedral.
Like St. John's, National Cathedral also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryan Walker. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Walker has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Rylea Whitfield was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Viola Sinbondit also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
St. John's is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for National Cathedral, their record is now 12-4.
St. John's speedy runners might be the difference in Sunday's game. The Cadets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for National Cathedral, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will St. John's continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went St. John's way against National Cathedral in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as St. John's made off with a 10-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cadets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
