Baseball Recap: First Flight Has No Trouble Against Hertford County

First Flight won the last time they faced Hertford County and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Nighthawks were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Bears. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won six games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Ben LaVier looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dillon Francis, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of First Flight's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Brody Stephens was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

First Flight always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hertford County only posted an OBP of .375.

First Flight now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Hertford County, their defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

First Flight has already played their next contest, a 6-2 victory against Perquimans on the 2nd. As for Hertford County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
