Softball Recap: Juneau-Douglas' Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Juneau-Douglas won the last time they faced West Valley and things went their way on Saturday too. The Crimson Bears blew past the Wolf Pack 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Crimson Bears, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Brynn Wheeler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Juneau-Douglas let Bryanna Eakes and Sadie Lockhart run wild. Eakes went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Lockhart went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two hits gave Eakes a new career-high.

Juneau-Douglas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Valley only posted an OBP of .455.

The win (which was Juneau-Douglas' fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for West Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Juneau-Douglas will challenge Lathrop at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Valley, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Colony at 3:45 p.m. on May 2.
