Basketball Recap: Rincon/University Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Will Edwards and Declan Mcgoldrick-Doty + How To Watch

Rincon/University was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 51-39 to the Sahuarita Mustangs. The Rangers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Rincon/University had strong showings from Declan McGoldrick-Doty, who posted 12 points and six rebounds, and Will Edwards, who put up nine points and seven boards. Edwards has also also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: he's posted one of at least 50% every time he's hit the court this season. Wyatt Green also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sahuarita to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zack Myhre, who shot 67% from the field to rack up 13 points and eight rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Myhre now owns an excellent 46.9% shooting accuracy. Ruben Villalba was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Rincon/University's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Sahuarita, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.

Rincon/University will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026. The Rangers' defense better be ready for this one: the Mountain Lions have averaged an impressive 51.1 points per game this season. As for Sahuarita, they will be taking part in a tournament against Hayden at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
