Baseball Recap: Scurry-Rosser Makes It Six in a Row at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grand Saline, Scurry-Rosser was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Rice Bulldogs 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Lincoln Wagner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Caleb Peavy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Gavin Willis was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Scurry-Rosser's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rice, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Scurry-Rosser didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 1-0 victory against Canton on the 6th. As for Rice, they will challenge Cross Roads at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cross Roads will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Rice surely won't give up without a fight.
