Basketball Recap: Valparaiso Skates Past Hobart with Ease

Valparaiso waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They claimed a resounding 70-34 win over the Hobart Brickies. With that victory, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.

Leading Valparaiso to victory were Kj Avery and Caden Crowell. Avery went 5 of 7 en route to 14 points along with six boards and five assists, while Crowell posted 14 points. What's more, Crowell also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. LaVon Redmond was another key player, putting up four points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Valparaiso was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Valparaiso's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-12. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points over those games. As for Hobart, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 14 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Valparaiso and Hobart could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Valparaiso (ranked 150th) will meet Crown Point (ranked tenth) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hobart will take on Andrean at 7:00 p.m. on Friday down 158 places (277 vs. 119).
