Basketball Recap: Wagon Mound Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Eugene Armijo and Jericho Martinez

Wagon Mound played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Springer Red Devils, falling 80-56. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, with their most recent loss being a 69-61 defeat two weeks ago.

Despite the defeat, Wagon Mound had strong showings from Jericho Martinez, who posted 21 points, and Eugene Armijo, who earned 16 points. The dominant performance gave Martinez a new career-high in points.

Wagon Mound has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. The victory made it two in a row for Springer and bumps their season record up to 11-14.

Looking ahead, Wagon Mound will head out to take on Des Moines at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wagon Mound is facing Des Moines at the right time seeing as Des Moines is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Springer, they will challenge Logan at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Logan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Springer likes a good challenge.
