Manchester is a perfect 8-0 against Richmond High School for the Arts since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Dior Barnes produced another solid performance rushing for 97 yards and three TDs on only seven carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landen Abernethy, who threw for 190 yards and one touchdown on only 18 passes.
Manchester's run defense was locked in: Powhatan could only muster 0.8 yards per carry. While eight picked up at least two total tackles, Jeremiah Blakney stood above the rest. He made two total tackles and snagged an interception. Manchester didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.2.
Manchester didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Gavin Glasco, Tristan Bowers, and Blakney picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Richmond High School for the Arts fell victim to Huguenot and their airtight defense on Saturday. They were beaten by the Falcons 79-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Manchester's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Richmond High School for the Arts, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Manchester has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Richmond High School for the Arts, though, as they've been averaging only 87.8 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
